Digital Twin Development and Data Processing
Context
A naval programme required increased confidence in the control and management of a major vessel’s power system, particularly as platform complexity and operational demand increased. Traditional analysis alone was insufficient to provide the level of assurance required for Verification and Validation (V&V) activities across multiple operating states.
AmfiskA Role
AmfiskA conceived, architected, and developed a digital twin to simulate the behaviour and control of the vessel’s power system, enabling evidence‑based assessment of performance, resilience, and control logic through high‑fidelity simulation.
What We Did
Defined the system and software architecture using standards‑aligned architectural views to capture power generation, distribution, control, and load interactions
Designed a simulation environment capable of dynamically modelling power demand, generation capacity, fault conditions, and system responses across representative operational scenarios
Developed a configurable control‑focused digital twin enabling exploration of operating modes, failure conditions, and recovery strategies
Implemented a user‑facing interface to support scenario configuration and results visualisation
Generated simulation outputs to support Verification and Validation activities, providing structured evidence against system performance and control requirements
Outcome
The digital twin provided the client with a powerful assurance tool, enabling early identification of control and integration risks and delivering credible simulation‑based evidence in support of V&V activities. This reduced reliance on late‑stage testing, strengthened confidence in system behaviour under demanding operational conditions, and supported safer, more informed design decisions for a complex naval power system.
