Maritime Drone System Feasibility Study

RNLI boat at sea

Context
Our customer required a feasibility study that looked at understanding whether small drone platforms (UAS) could replace selected missions traditionally undertaken by crewed air systems, while still maintaining operational effectiveness and safety at sea.

AmfiskA Role
AmfiskA work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team as the systems experts to undertake the operational analysis and develop the systems architecture to assess mission needs against emerging uncrewed technologies.

What We Did

  • Conducted structured operational analysis across representative maritime operational scenarios

  • Developed a system‑level architectural view of the existing crewed air system’s use cases

  • Assessed current and near‑term small drone capabilities against operational requirements

  • Performed a gap analysis to identify capability shortfalls, risks, and opportunities

  • Produced a benefits‑led roadmap to inform future investment and concept development

Outcome
The client gained a clear, evidence‑based view of where small drone platforms could deliver value, where limitations remained, and how capability could evolve over time through structured investment.
